Abstract Security give more comfort to paranoid persons. On the other hand, security provide some extraordinarily primitive guarantees that we can take for granted we do not require. At this time the Internet offers bare communication between an immense amounts of individuals and is in general more used as a vehicle for exchange but security is now a giant issue to consider. I like to describe cryptography as a technique/method with which data can be sorted and transmitted in a specific way and format in such a manner that only the targeted receiver is in a position to process such data or read it after applying some de-cryptography. It safeguards the data or misuse by transforming (encrypting) it into a form that cannot be understood, and which is known as cipher text which again can be converted (decrypted) into the actual form by using the secret key. This research conducted is more or less a comparative study of two of the most commonly used algorithms (Hash functions) which are deployed predominantly in the cause of Information Security In the below research we have dealt only with three of its major aspects: Collision vulnerabilities, Performance and Security (file integrity) to enable the users to make informative decisions regarding the choice of the cryptographic algorithm (Hash functions) that would best be deployed for use out of the existing ones.
