| Abstract | Phishing attacks significantly threaten the security of individuals, organizations, and the entire digital environment. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of current research developments focused on understanding, mitigating, and countering phishing attacks. This paper draws on a variety of sources, including academic articles, and industry reports, to provide a detailed analysis of the various types of phishing attacks, the techniques used by attackers, and the effectiveness of various countermeasures. This review paper also identified gaps in existing research and suggests areas for future research to improve our understanding of phishing attacks and prevention methods. In addition, This review paper discussed various countermeasures that individuals and organizations can implement to reduce the risk of phishing attacks, such as authentication, anti-spamming/anti-phishing software, strong passwords, web filtering, e.g., Mail filters, and maintaining software and anti-virus programs. Overall, this review paper provided valuable insight into the current state of research on paper phishing attacks and their countermeasures, and provides practical guidance for individuals and organizations to protect themselves from such attacks. |
